Sustainability and responsibility are at the heart of VAV’s construction work

Our aim is to build affordable rental flats in Vantaa in the most sustainable way possible. The sustainability objectives reflected in our construction work are also increasingly guiding our plans for future new-build projects. Three new VAV developments are currently under construction in Vantaa.

Sustainable and responsible construction is at the heart of VAV’s development work. Our construction is also based on a diverse range of housing types, liveability, comfort and durability. Right from the design stage, the aim is to ensure that the building serves its users and the environment in the best possible way.

“Our fundamental aim is to build eco-labelled properties using high-quality and reliable structural solutions. Sustainability is also reflected in the maintainability and energy efficiency of our properties,” explains Antti Huurre, VAV’s Director of Development.

Taking the maintainability and energy efficiency of buildings into account at the design stage significantly extends the service life of the properties. New developments are built to energy class A, which reduces overall energy consumption. Where possible, the developments also incorporate their own renewable energy generation, such as solar power.

A commitment to sustainability also guides us towards more environmentally friendly solutions indoors. The properties utilise energy-efficient appliances and lighting, water-saving fittings, and individual water meters and displays for each flat.

“Reducing our carbon footprint and cutting emissions are important goals for us. We use eco-labelled and low-carbon materials as much as possible in our construction projects,” says Huurre.

Three new developments under construction

Two new developments in Vantaa, built by VAV with government support, are due for completion in early autumn 2025.

A seven-storey residential block is being built in Asola at Lipstikkakuja 2, which, upon completion, will be VAV’s fifth building to receive the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. A second residential building is being built at Myyrmäentie 2. Located a stone’s throw from Myyrmäki station, the development is a modern 16-storey tower block with a total of up to 120 flats and sauna facilities on the top floor.

In Simonkylä, Vantaa, the Tikkurila care home is currently under construction. The development will comprise 146 serviced flats and is expected to be completed in early 2027. The care home will be leased in its entirety to the Vantaa and Kerava welfare region, which will sublet the flats to future residents. Once the property is completed, the owner, VAV Palvelukodit, will have nearly 900 flats in Vantaa dedicated to assisted living.

VAV is currently planning three new developments, some of which are expected to get underway during 2025.

Our fundamental aim is to build eco-labelled developments using high-quality and reliable construction solutions.
