Tikkurila Senior Centre reaches interior construction phase
Construction work on the new care home for the elderly being built in Simonkylä has already progressed well into the interior fit-out stage. The new four-storey building, due to open in early 2027, will provide 146 new residential places in the area and meet the growing need for housing and care services for older people.
The new building, to be constructed at Simontie 5, will form part of the Tikkurila care home for the elderly, alongside the existing Simonkylä care home for the elderly, which is already located on the same site. The first residents will move into the centre, which will be owned by VAV Palvelukodit Oy, in early 2027.
Work on the interior of the building is already well advanced, and work on the grounds is also underway. Furnishing of the premises will begin in late 2026. To mark the progress of the construction, a traditional topping-out ceremony was held at the site at the end of May, attended by invited guests.

The new, modern centre will be tailored to the residents’ needs
The Vantaa and Kerava Welfare Region will act as the service provider and tenant for the Tikkurila care home. The new four-storey building will have a total of 146 residential places, and the centre will offer its residents round-the-clock assisted living and communal living.
The flats and facilities at the care home for the elderly have been designed to adapt to residents’ needs. For example, a resident may start out as a communal living resident, but if their condition changes and their need for care increases, they can transition to round-the-clock assisted living.
“This means residents can continue living in a familiar environment, with the same neighbours and staff, and do not need to move to another care home. This brings continuity and security to everyday life, as routines and the environment remain the same,” explains Armi Hyry, Service Area Director for Care Housing in the Vantaa and Kerava Welfare Area.
The building utilises new technology to support a smooth daily life. In addition, the centre will feature multi-purpose lounges and function rooms, as well as cultural and therapy spaces, which will enable residents to lead a communal and varied life alongside local residents, their loved ones, volunteers and organisations.
Residents of the Simonkylä care home for the elderly and day centre users will also be able to make use of the new centre’s communal areas, as the buildings will be connected by a corridor.
Construction is progressing on schedule and within budget
Rakennusliike Lapti Oy is responsible for the design and construction of the care home building, which will be owned by VAV Palvelukodit Oy. The lead structural and architectural designer for the building is HIMLA Architects Oy.
“Construction of the care home for the elderly is progressing on schedule and with excellent cooperation between all parties. It is already evident on site that the result will be comfortable and safe premises for residents, as well as high-quality, durable and cost-effective facilities for the client and for the provision of regional services that are vital to the local community,” explains Regional Manager Jarkko Pakkala from Lapt.
It’s great that the construction of the care home for the elderly is now in its final stages. Cooperation with Lapt and the welfare district has gone extremely well, and we believe that the facilities will meet both the users’ and our own expectations.
